90th birthday celebrations with Chateau Gateaux and Darren Maule

Grateful thanks to Tafta’s long time friend, Darren Maule, and Durban’s favourite cake brand, Chateau Gateaux, for helping us host the party of the year. Held in honour of Tafta residents, Mr Dorasamy, Mrs Naidoo and Mrs Barr, who all turn 90 and over this year, the birthday bash took place at the Anna Conradie Service Centre at Tafta Lodge.

Carnival Theme

In keeping with the carnival theme, guests dressed up in gorgeous, brightly coloured outfits. Photographs of the birthday elders’ most cherished memories were displayed on the walls. There was music and dancing. And MC for the event, Darren Maule, kept everyone entertained with witty jokes and anecdotes.

You can’t have a birthday party without a cake. And in this case, our friends at Chateau Gateaux, generously sponsored not one, but three!  Each cake was beautifully decorated according to the elders’ preference.  And Chateau Gateaux also made sure there were buffet cake slices for all the guests. Thank you!

Generous sponsors

“It has been such a great experience to spend time with such a special group of people,” said Anna Kelly, marketing manager at Chateau Gateaux. “This is the first event we’ve been part of since the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an honour to partner with Tafta once again to enrich the lives of the elderly.”

Tafta CEO, Femada Shamam, expressed her gratitude to the sponsors. “Thank you Darren and Anna for making yourselves available to share this celebration,” she said. “Having spent nine decades on this earth, these elders have lived through some of the major transformations our country has seen. We are truly blessed that they call Tafta home, and that we have the opportunity to interact with, and relive history through them.”

She concluded by wishing the three a very happy birthday. “We hope that the years you continue to spend at Tafta will be blessed and filled with joy,” she said.
