Your worst nightmare …

Armed intruders forcing their way into your home. Having a gun pointed straight at you. Staring down the barrel and wondering if this is how your life ends. Praying that these violent thugs won’t hurt you. Helpless, as they wrench your phone, purse, jewellery and other precious possessions from you.

That’s what happened to two ladies in their 70s at Tafta Park recently. One of them needed treatment for painful bruises and abrasions caused by having her jewellery ripped off. Both were extremely shaken up, as you can imagine.

And we can’t let it happen again.

Not to vulnerable elders who depend on us to keep them safe! Criminals in the area are targeting the Home because most of the residents are elderly women – soft targets who can’t fight back.

We urgently need to beef up security. Install new perimeter fencing with high-tensile steel welded wire mesh (concrete/palisade fencing??) that can’t be cut or climbed over … razor wire … automated gates and security cameras.

All of which adds up to a staggering R1.7 million. Money that we haven’t budgeted for and we just don’t have. But neither do the residents.

Most of them are living on small, fixed pensions that barely stretch to cover food, medicines and other essentials. They are in no position to pay special levies towards this urgent need.

But what if there were other people who were willing to chip in towards a ‘special levy’? People who care deeply about frightened elders at the mercy of ever increasing crime. People like you!

If we could find a thousand generous people, each willing to contribute R1 700, work on the security upgrade could start right away. Or two thousand people, each willing to give R850. Or five thousand to each give R340.

The more people who join in, the easier it gets! Because, together, what seems impossible becomes possible.

So please, will you be the first to start the ball rolling, by making a donation of any amount right now? Every gift – large or small – makes a difference. And helps ensure that vulnerable elders living at Tafta Park can feel safe in their own homes again.
