Robin Hood Foundation spreads love across Tafta Homes
Over the festive season, Tafta residents have again felt the generosity of the annual Bless A Granny & Grandpa project – an initiative of the Robin Hood Foundation South Africa. The partnership of two non-profit organisations committed to creating joy, belonging, and care for older persons, highlights the extraordinary power of community-led kindness.
Guided by the warm and compassionate Charlotte Edgar, the Robin Hood Foundation team visited St Martins Village, Kings Hall and Tafta Lodge From late October through November 2025. Still to come are John Dunn House (10 December) and Langeler Towers (18 December), ensuring hundreds more elders experience the joy of being seen, valued, and celebrated.
Joyous celebrations
Each visit has been far more than a festive stop-in. Residents were treated to delicious snacks, uplifting music, and dancing that transformed ordinary days into joyous celebrations. Whether forming a lively “train” or swaying together in the Macarena, the atmosphere at each event was filled with laughter and the freedom to simply enjoy the moment.
One of the most touching elements has been the Foundation’s dedication to preparing personalised gifts for each resident, many of whom seldom receive visits or tokens of affection. Donations poured in from supporters, including schoolchildren who added handwritten notes and photos to remind recipients that they matter deeply. These thoughtful gestures helped ensure that each gift was not just an item, but a message of belonging.
Residents give back
Residents of Tafta’s St Martins Village also prepared a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for the visiting volunteers. At the close of the event, they presented the Robin Hood Foundation team with small potted plants. It was a simple yet deeply meaningful token of gratitude.
Reflecting on the impact of the initiative, our Chief Executive Officer, Femada Shamam, said, “This week brought a wave of kindness from the Robin Hood Foundation South Africa. Their blessings continue to rain down on our elders. They put extraordinary effort into preparing personalised gifts for residents, and the gratitude at Kings Hall was palpable. The team welcomed them warmly, residents expressed heartfelt appreciation, and it was a beautiful exchange of generosity and joy. Thank you to the team and all who worked tirelessly to make the arrangements seamless.”
We extend our deepest appreciation to the Robin Hood Foundation South Africa, their volunteers, donors, and everyone who played a part in ensuring that love, joy, and dignity are shared generously with our elders this festive season
