Still reeling from the shock of last week’s fuel price increase? Us too!
It’s not just about paying more at the pumps. Almost every item we buy in the stores is transported by road – and hauliers will pass the increased cost on to the consumer. Everything – from bread and milk to pantry staples – is going to cost more.
At Tafta we provide subsidised accommodation, nutritious meals, care and support to no fewer than 440 of these souls. Every day, each one gets breakfast, lunch and supper – plus morning and afternoon tea.
For many older residents, these meals are the highlight of day. They’re not just about the food or the cup of tea. More than that, they provide an opportunity to gather together and enjoy companionship and cosy chats. Simple pleasures that make life worth living.
We are committed to promoting healthy ageing, where physical and mental health are paramount. But we’ve already been advised that the cost of our elders’ daily meals is going up by R10 per person.
R10 doesn’t sound like much, does it?
But multiply that by 440 people and you see the problem.
We need an extra R4 400 every day just to cover the increase!
At a time when every South African is feeling the pinch, you can imagine how reluctant we are to ask you for more help. But we have no choice. Not when 440 older South Africans are depending on us.
So please, will you consider lending a helping hand … at least until the fuel prices stabilise again?
If you can donate just R300 today, it will make up the shortfall on the cost of one elder’s meals for an entire month. If you can donate this amount monthly, it would be amazing.
Or give R600 right now to ensure that two elders can continue to enjoy their nutritious meals. Or R900 to provide for three elders.
Any amount you can give right now will be such a blessing.
One day we may also be retired, with little to no income to meet rising costs. Nurturing the spirit of Sisonke – we are together – means that no one will ever be abandoned by the caring community we are building together today.
Thank you for being part of it.
