Alzheimer’s Awareness Day – breaking down the stigma
To mark World Alzheimer’s Day, Tafta joined forces with the National Department of Social Development (DSD) to host an awareness session at the Anna Conradie Wellness Centre.
120 elders, including Tafta residents and community members, came together for a morning of education, reflection, and connection. Speakers shared expert insights on dementia, brain health, and personal care-giving journeys.
The programme reflected Tafta’s ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of older persons, and underscored the importance of community partnerships in tackling age-related health challenges.
“Events like these are vital in breaking down the stigma attached to dementia,” said Tafta CEO, Femada Shamam. “We want to equip caregivers and elders with knowledge and support.”
Civil Legodu, Chief Director, Older Persons Services at DSD, commented, “We are honoured to collaborate with Tafta in creating awareness around Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our aim is to ensure that older persons and their families feel supported, valued, and empowered to live with dignity.”
