Leave your own legacy this Mandela Day
Mandela Day is just around the corner. Which means it’s time to celebrate Madiba’s legacy … his dream of a nation working together to eradicate poverty, and uplift one another. Every time we give of our time, our gifts and even our cash to help someone else on Mandela Day, we are building our own legacy.
This year’s Mandela Day theme is: Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are. That means we can all do something! And every action we take to help improve the lives of others is like a pebble tossed into a pond. We may never know how far those ripples travel, or how many lives they touch. All we know is that we are creating a legacy of love.
Because, in the words of our former President:
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
What legacy will you leave?
Why not start by showing kindness and compassion to our elders? Many have worked hard their entire lives, only to be left with very little to sustain them in their old age. Because, a government pension on its own is simply not sufficient to enable anyone to live in dignity, let alone comfort. Imagine having to think twice before you buy a new toothbrush or roll-on!
And for elders who have to cope with incontinence, it’s even tougher. You could easily spend half your pension – or more – on incontinence wear, leaving precious little for food and other basic necessities.
Please create your own legacy of kindness and compassion by donating items like toiletries and incontinence wear to Tafta for Mandela Day. Or, make a cash donation conveniently right now, so we can buy these much needed items for an elder on your behalf.
If you’d prefer to give of yourself … spending time interacting with elders who don’t get many visitors, or helping out with maintenance tasks to brighten up our Homes … please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Madeleen by emailing info@tafta.org.za
Leave a Legacy to Tafta
Or you could leave an actual legacy to Tafta – a gift in your Will that will impact the lives of elders for years, even generations to come. It really is the most painless way to give. Because it costs you absolutely nothing.
For more information on legacy gifts, kindly contact Madeleen on 031 332 3721 or email info@tafta.org.za. To add a bequest to Tafta to an existing Will, please download the codicil form. This document must be signed and witnessed in the same way as a Will. Keep it together with, but not stapled or pinned to, your Will.
