KZN Women in Business Chairperson, Sue St Leger-Stretch, gets Tafta’s Cash Ring Rush telethon going on Mandela Day.

Thanks for your Mandela Day support

In celebration of  Mandela Month, Tafta spent July encouraging both supporters and beneficiaries to adopt the theme, “It is in your hands” in an effort to connect those in need with those who can help.

On Mandela Day, we hosted an online telethon – Cash Ring Rush – to raise funds towards the cost of running our National Toll-free Elder Abuse Helpline.

“Almost 20 champions participated in the event, either virtually or in-person, making contact with their networks to bring in pledges of over R90 000 toward the service,” said CEO, Femada Shamam. The campaign continues into August, so if you haven’t yet done so, you can still make a donation through our website.

Shamam described the event as, “an exhilarating day charged with the electricity of bringing humanity alive. Each pledge that came through was celebrated with the ring of a bell and exuberant shouts from all present.”

Highlights of the activities and in-kind contributions of Mandela Day were shared on our social platforms, showcasing support for our elders from over 15 corporates.

Shamam expressed her gratitude and admiration for all who endorsed this year’s theme. “To every person, business and organisation that responded to our appeal this Mandela month, I sincerely and humbly thank you for spending your 67 minutes with us – bringing joy, relief and inspiration to elders who find a home at Tafta.

“To every Tafta staff member and resident who spent the 67 minutes giving back, I salute your efforts to make a difference in your community.”
