Elders shine at Tafta sports day
As part of our Month of Older Persons celebrations, Tafta’s annual Senior Athletics Sports Day took place at Kings Park Athletics Stadium on 7 October 2025.
More than 200 older persons from Tafta residences and community clubs joined the action. They spent the day moving, laughing and competing in six lively games – with the popular Dress Up relay closing the event in style.

Active ageing
But the day wasn’t just about movement and team spirit. It embodied Tafta’s vision of active ageing – empowering older people to participate with confidence and celebrate their strengths.
Tafta’s Divisional Manager of Operations, Yoshina Kistensamy, called the day “a heartwarming reminder” of why she loves her work.
“Mascots, cheering, dancing and laughter filled the air,” she said. “What stood out most was the camaraderie, belonging, and joy that connected everyone. Watching the teams give their all reminded me why Tafta’s mission – creating spaces where older persons live with purpose, dignity, and meaning – matters so deeply.”

Sports Day winners
The team from John Conradie House and Langeler Towers dominated the field, taking home the 2025 championship title and well-earned bragging rights.
This successful event was made possible through the generous support of Allmed Nursing Services, AVBOB, Ashraful Aid, Westville Mall, Trimbourne Bus Services, Feedem Caterers, aQuellé, ETA College Durban, and DJs Alan Chetty, Chinks, and Shakes. Their support ensured a safe, fun and meaningful day for everyone.
Thanks to everyone who supported or participated on the day. Events like these challenge stereotypes and celebrate older persons as active, visible, and valued members of society.
We’re also incredibly proud of our professional senior sports team, the “Go Getters” Club.
During the recent Golden Games provincial round, they brought home gold in the Ball Pass & Kick challenge, earning their KZN colours in the process. Their next stop will be the National rounds in Cape Town, to be held later in the year.
