AGM provides an opportunity to celebrate achievements
Addressing the audience at our AGM recently, our CEO, Femada Shamam had some impressive statistics to share. During the 2023/24 financial year:
- 1867 elders were cared for in our residential facilities.
- 364 dedicated employees provided care services.
- 295 volunteers helped out.
- 23 688 home care visits were conducted.
- 109 elders were provided with ageing in place services.
- 549 930 freshly prepared meals were served to elders.
- 1532 calls were made to our all free national elder abuse helpline.
- 1198 donors contributed to our work.
The meeting, which took place on Thursday 19 September at the Anna Conradie Wellness Centre in Tafta Lodge, was attended by council members, residents and guests.
Mr Wicus Jacobs continues as Chairperson of the Tafta Council, and there were no new members elected. The meeting also provided a platform for elders to voice concerns and be involved in decision making.
Challenges experienced
Despite the challenges of inadequate funding experienced by the majority of South African non-profits, and the ever increasing demands for services for older people owing to the growing ageing population world wide, Tafta continues to make an invaluable impact on the lives of older people. With representation on local, national and international platforms, our organisation is a leader in the sector.
“Looking back on the year, I am reminded of the countless moments that have brought us together as a community,” said CEO, Mrs Femada Shamam. “Together we will continue to create an environment where every older person can live with dignity, purpose and joy.”
Both she and Mr Jacobs expressed gratitude to the organisation’s leaders, staff and the many donors who continue to support the organisation.
