Want to save tax? Here’s how – and help older South Africans too!

 

When we say “Sisonke – We Are Together,” we mean it. Every act of kindness, every donation, every moment of care strengthens a community where older South Africans are valued, protected, and loved.

Many elders in our communities live only on the older persons grant of R2 340 per month received from SASSA. That’s not enough for food, medicines, or even a safe, comfortable home. No one should have to choose between a warm meal and their health – yet too many do.

By donating to Tafta, you’re not just giving money – you’re giving dignity, hope, and love. Every rand supports programs that care for older South Africans, ensuring they are safe, respected, and valued.

For example:

  • Donate R500 today – R500 goes directly to Tafta to support elders.
  • Your donation also reduces your taxable income, which then reduces the tax you pay according to your marginal tax rate. This means you still give the full R500 to Tafta, but you pay slightly less tax – the exact amount depends on your income.
  • Using your Section 18A Certificate, you can claim a tax rebate from SARS, making it easier to support older South Africans while reducing your tax bill.

How to Save Tax – Even if It’s Your First Time

  1. Donate online to Tafta – it’s fast, easy, and secure.
  2. Receive your Section 18A Certificate – this proves your donation to SARS and allows you to claim your tax rebate.
  3. Include it when you do your tax return – SARS calculates your rebate automatically based on your taxable income.
  4. Deadline: Make your donation before 25 February 2026 to get your certificate for the 2025/2026 tax year.
