Valentine’s Day at Tafta – a celebration of love in action
At Tafta, Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love. Within our residences and wellness centres, we express love through meaningful shared moments, small gifts and activities that bring people together. Such as the creative biscuit decorating session at Lucas Gardens, generously hosted by Lucia Smith from AVBOB.
At Primrose Wellness Centre, members crafted heartfelt decorations using everyday materials. Ocean View residents made Valentine cards during a friendly social get together.
Shared creative activities
These shared creative activities brought lively chatter, laughter and pride in simple hands-on creativity. And perhaps, the pleasure of deciding who to give the finished items to. A beloved grandchild, maybe. Or a fellow Tafta resident who has become a dear friend.
At the Oldfield and Mary Asher Wellness Centres, elders embraced the spirit of the occasion by dressing in red for their special Valentine’s lunches. Tafta On Ridge residents enjoyed an extra special day, with sweets, treats and a visit from Northwood School – proving these young people really do have a heart for older members of the community.
Valentine’s Dance
Hosting a Valentine’s Day Dance at Anna Conradie Wellness Centre was a huge hit! Our elders thoroughly enjoyed the music and the chance to show off their ‘moves’. We also had a dance at John Conradie House and Langeler Towers, as well as a touching song dedication line in the Healing Garden.
Across all residences, staff and residents embraced the theme through coordinated ‘Tekkies and Tees’ outfits – a visual reminder of unity, teamwork, and the shared spirit that defines Tafta.
And let’s not forget our generous donors and supporters, who literally ‘came to the party’. Special thanks for the donation of donuts that brought such pleasure to elders at John Dunn House. Thank you to everyone who showed the love for our elders this Valentine’s Day.
