Annual golf day in support of TEAL

Our annual Corporate Golf Day takes place on Friday, 19 June 2026 at Umhlali Country Club. This much-anticipated event brings together corporate partners, community members, and supporters for a day of purpose-driven engagement in support of a critical service.

This year, proceeds from the Golf Day will be dedicated to TEAL – the Tafta Elder Abuse Line. Since its launch in November 2022, TEAL has received more than 4700 calls from older persons across South Africa seeking assistance, guidance, and protection. It costs approximately R530 000 per year to run the service. But you can’t put a price on its vital role in addressing and responding to cases of elder abuse nationwide.

Urgency of addressing elder abuse

Chief Executive Officer of Tafta, Femada Shamam, highlighted the urgency of addressing elder abuse, noting that it remains a largely hidden issue. She emphasised that many older persons suffer in silence, often without access to the support they need. TEAL gives them a voice and a pathway to safety.

She called on the community and corporate sector to support the Golf Day, highlighting that every contribution directly enables Tafta to continue offering essential services to older persons across the country. Events such as the Corporate Golf Day not only raise vital funds, but also help shine a light on the importance of protecting the dignity and wellbeing of older persons.
